What did you want to be when you grew up?

Thrown headfirst into a colour filled world of puppets, balloons and poopy-loops, TigerFace tries to keep his adult cynicism at bay whilst recreating the last ever episode of his famous kids TV show.

Descending into absurdism, the performance quickly unfurls into an audience responsive, ragged scream party piece, that's 1 part misery to 2 parts joy.

The TigerFace Show was a joyful-yet-melancholic 1hr skit that asked audiences to rethink what it was they wanted to be when we grew up. Poking at what happens when our expectations meet reality, the work explored adult mental-health, ultimately asking us all to reclaim some childlike joy in adulthood.

Welcome Back

"Justin Teddy Cliffe’s kind of humour begs the world to be a kinder, more humorous place. He manages to deliver raw stories, giving us something to really chew on... The combination is a prescription for our well-being" GET THE CHANCE WALES Reviewed by Leslie R Herman Jones

I am broken, battered and bruised.

Maybe more fucked up than I've ever been before.

Bringing abstract memories forwards from the past.

Partly to remember, partly to forget.

How will we cope going back into the world after having been in survival mode for so long?

Who knows...

But before we start worrying about all that let's toast this strange time with a drink or four and dance like it's the end of the world as we know it.

Welcome Back was a 30-40min online show performed live from inside the venue at Le Pub during the height of the Covid-19 Lock Down.

It was made with urgency and spontaneity and ended up being   funny, chaotic, wordy, dance piece about survival modes, memories, self-preservation and accepting change. The performer is half-drunk playing to an audience made from cardboard delivery boxes.

LIFE COACH

AN ONLINE DIGITAL THEATRE EXPERIENCE

Network New Digital Commissions

National Theatre Wales & Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru with BBC Cymru Wales & BBC Arts
Created by Justin Teddy Cliffe

Do you ever worry about what keeps holding you back?
Do you ever wonder why you’re so unsuccessful?
Do you ever consider how you could be a better person?

Because we do, and we want to show you how.

It is time to unlock your power, shift your paradigm, access your authenticity and change your life forever.

LIFE COACH was an immersive, digital theatre experience, that aimed to take audiences on a sardonic exploration through the digital culture of obsession, individualism, addiction and influencers.

Inspired by the immediate and present trends of online guru’ism I made the piece in conjunction with National Theatre Wales’ Network scheme, in direct response to the conoronavirus crisis.

The project was supported by National Theatre Wales & Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru with BBC Cymru Wales & BBC Arts.  The performance of the work took place only once via email, youtube, Twitter and Zoom, and was broadcast live to over a 1,000 people across the world.

Tourist Inbetween

Tourist In Between is an on going investigation into Newport, that uses it's tourist attractions as an access point into a more deeply considered dialogue about what Newport means to people internally and externally.

Somewhere between street performance and live art, the work uses fictional narratives to hang absurdist characters in real, everyday spaces. By making sure the performer and the audience meet in this liminal space between reality and fiction, we can temporarily poke a hole in the fabric of what we deem ‘might be real’ and dream ‘might be possible’. Through doing this Tourist In Between attempts to create spontaneous relationships with people. Once this has happened we can begin asking bigger, more direct, and more fertile questions.

The first iteration of the work was a short film (commissioned by Creative Cardiff) that used Newport’s iconic tourist hot-spots as a backdrop for semi-interactive street performances and character based interactions. It is was a playful invitation into the broader thesis of the work, and the beginnings of a surrealist survey into Newport’s culture, future and citizens.

ImposterMouth

IMPOSTERMOUTH

Impostermouth is a surreal, rhythmic spoken word journey through a day in the life of a man who has some sort of depression. He is, on the off chance, maybe okay, but is often, if not always, convinced otherwise.

It’s about coming to terms with something.

It’s about trying to find beauty in sadness.

It's about the discontentment in nostalgia.

It’s about giving up on Hulk Hogan.

The average man speaks approximately 7,000 words a day. Impostermouth will attempt to say 7,001 in less than an hour. Try and count along.
